ReMODELING RELATIONSHIP
Man Zhu and Bingqin Zhang, two young artists from the same hometown, met in the United States and studied together for several years. They supported each other with common enthusiasm of photography and composed their expression of relationship with unique ideas.
During the time of covid, Superb exists in a spacial form being a temporary Pop Up location. These two artists bring a refreshing and warm narrative of emotion and relationships, captured by their photography works, into Superb Gallery. This collaboration is full of joy and romantically meaningful to us, which is regarded as a joyful ‘relationship’.

Man Zhu presents a body work that explores the artists subconscious behavior in her close, personal relationships. Through a creative process that draws on the principles of semiotics - the philosophy of signs and symbols - Zhu harnesses the representative elements of her subjects' identities and integrates them into self-portraiture. Due to the unpredictable nature of processing expired film, the initial concepts and the final images are often dissimilar, reflecting the differences between the expectations and realities of human relationships.
Bingqin Zhang uses her works to examine the relationship between the artist and the medium of photography. This young artist's exploration of photographic materials has opened up more possibilities for photography. She is convinced that the characteristics of photographic materials are the elements that make photography diversified and rejuvenated. At the same time, she believes that her creative, experimental methods have allowed photography to go back to the close relationship with science and reborn from it to an unique way or artistic expression.
